L6m - Print Inspection for for Recordables

The Xiris L6 monochrome is a full-scale print inspection system specifically designed for automated quality control of recordable CD, DVD, and all HD media.

Recordable print inspection systems must be able to cope with a whole range of surfaces, from semitransparent surfaces to fully printed discs, from smooth to textured metal surfaces, color or clear ink – each with varying reflective characteristics. Coping with this variety requires utmost flexibility from the lighting system. The L6m features two independent light sources: the upper LED panel for analyzing lacquer and metal defects, the lower ring LED for print. The L6 monochrome spots defects as low as almost 100 µm in size. For low-contrasting extensive marks or structure flaws, the L6m features a specially designed low-pass filter, adding extra sensitivity to defects such as waves and ghosting that are often found on recordable media. Another new software feature, Color Plane Inspection Detecting, captures low-contrast defects in large homogeneous areas. The high imaging quality required for this level of accuracy is provided by a high-resolution digital monochrome camera with a 1024 x 1024 pixel array. Marrying the low signal-to-noise ratio of a single-chip camera with multiple image-taking eliminates noise while boosting inspection performance. This sets a new benchmark for testing elastomer seals critical to safety.
