Xiris has developed a Patent-pending 3D machine vision solution designed for Tube and Pipe producers in which highly accurate, repetitive measurements of key parameters are made. The inspection system includes a measuring sensor and processor. The sensor is placed in between the last fin pass rollers and the induction coil on a ERW mill. Using Xiris software with 3D laser profiling, the sensor sends data to the processor for analysis, displaying process information on a monitor to alert the operator of potential problems. The system runs on the Windows® operating system for maximum ease of use by operating personnel.
The system is currently in beta testing with a number of tube and pipe producers to evaluate the V angle, mismatch, and edge presentation during forming in welded tube production. The beta testing is scheduled for completion by the fall of 2008 with production of the final product to follow soon after.
