Rim to Rim Disc Print Inspection

Print InspectionOptical Disc Replicators are always looking for ways to improve the experience they provide to their customers by improving the consistency of the printed artwork that they deliver. One of the challenges long left un-touched in printing optical discs is the automated inspection of the inner and outer rim area. Normally, the rim areas are not inspected as traditional inspection techniques do not work efficiently in these areas.

In response to industry demands; Xiris has developed a proprietary method to inspect the Print Quality of labels on a disc from rim to rim of each disc, detecting defects right to the rim in an area that is often referred to as “over print.” By applying a statistical algorithm to the inspection process, the number of discs that would normally get rejected while detecting defects from a damaged screen that causes the “over print” is greatly reduced. The rim inspection algorithm module is available for Xiris’ flag ship product, the PI2000, which is the most technologically advanced print inspection system available for the optical disc industry today.
