Situation: Production Manager, Large VHS Duplicator.
Critical Issue: The company is one of the world’s largest duplicators
of recorded VHS tapes for the Movie industry. In an effort to tighten up security
in their plant to comply with stringent security requirements from their customers,
our customer decided to implement a ultra violet code on the cassette itself
for product tracking and security purposes. As part of this new effort, they
needed a way to read the code on the fly using inspection equipment.
Reasons: The company implemented an alphanumeric code in ultraviolet
ink that allowed them to closely monitor and track the position of all cassettes
in production. The alphanumeric code allowed the code to be human readable,
but rendered traditional bar code readers useless.
Vision: He said he needed a supplier to develop a custom inspection system
that could read the UV alphanumeric codes on the side of the cassette and report
to a host system the code read. The system had to have 0% false accepts, and
less than 1% false rejects, all running at 110 pieces per minute.
We provided: We provided him with these capabilities.
Result: The customer implemented the inspection system and was so pleased
with it they have implemented it in two different factories across 15 production
lines.
