Situation: Manufacturing Process Manager, United States
Critical Issue: The company was one of the first companies to manufacture
and package DVD9 discs. As part of their manufacturing mandate with their customers,
they had to ensure that their production was completely contamination free,
so they had to put Ident Code reading systems into their packaging machines.
Reasons: Their original DVD9 discs were mastered with full height Ident
Code on both layers of the disc, causing the codes to be overlapped when the
two layers of the disc were bonded together, rendering the Ident Code almost
impossible to read manually. Existing supplier’s product could not read this
overlapping code.
Vision: The manager needed a way to verify at least one of the overlapping
codes on the disc to verify that the right disc was passing through their production
line. If one of the layers could be confirmed, then they could minimize the
chances of contamination for their customers.
We provided: Xiris provided him with a Ident Code reading solution to
be able to read overlapping codes from within their packaging machine.
Result: They were able to package DVD9 discs with overlapping Ident Codes
and thus able to guarantee contamination free shipments of product to their
customers.
